Gigi Hadid Cut Her Own Bangs for Her First Campaign

While we have a tough time thinking of Gigi Hadid without her signature, golden mermaid mane, there was a time when her hair was, well, different. Fans of the supermodel may know that she began modeling at a mere 2 years old, and suffice to say her hairstyle was a little bit different back then. Personally, we’ve always been fans of her pigtails and bandana combo, but it turns out there was more to that ‘do than met the eye. In a recent interview with W magazine, she finally shared exactly why that mane moment happened.

Model Hair Tales: Why Haircuts Instantly Upgrade Your Style

“I think my first campaign was when I was two, and I don’t remember this, but the night before my first shoot, I cut my own bangs,” she told the magazine. “So in my first baby Guess campaign, I’m wearing a bandana because I decided to give myself a haircut.” Granted, we can’t really see what her DIY chop looks like — due to aforementioned bandana — but sounds like she made it work! Gigi hasn’t gone back to the bangs since, aside from one or two brushes with a faux fringe, but we love the style on her. It might be time for her to break out those scissors again, although she might consider having a pro stylist nearby this time! And, if not, there’s always the tried-and-true bandana hack.
