The Net-a-Porter and Frame Jeans Collaboration Is a Dream for Denim Lovers

Whether you love it or not, the interest in reworked denim is at an all-time high. Over the past year, these distressed, pieced-together pairs have morphed into a street style phenomenon, with Vetements’s high-rise, Frankenstein style leading the way.

What’s the big deal over vintage-inspired jeans, you ask? The style has certainly been a key player on the runways for the past couple of seasons. For spring 2016 and fall 2016, Off-White’s Virgil Abloh put forth versions that boasted details like exposed O-ring zipper, frayed hem, and patchwork denim in varying colors. Last month, the designer also launched a covetable lineup of one-of-a-kind true blues with Levi’s Made & Crafted label. Sonia Rykiel, Tome, and Roberto Cavalli are also just a few of the brands who’ve joined the denim club this season.

For those who are lusting after this cool closet staple but can’t feasibly cough up the $1,450 for a pair of Vetements jeans, Net-a-Porter is launching a decidedly chic reworked denim capsule at a quarter of the price today. In partnership with denim purveyor Frame, the three-piece line features stitched-up mini skirts and two jeans (one straight-leg and one boyfriend, both with asymmetrical hems) that will undoubtedly shake up your basic tee-and-jeans ensemble for fall. “I saw this was an obvious fire-starter trend that would trickle down to our known denim brands,” Sarah Rutson, Net-a-Porter’s vice president of global buying, tells Allure. The popularity of Vetements and Off-White’s reworked denim influenced her to approach Frame.

4 denim styles you should try out:

Just like your favorite skinnies and funky wide-legs, these styles will go with literally everything in your closet. Consider pairing them with a statement hoodie, delicate Victorian blouse, or silk pajama shirt. “The question is, what do they not work with?” says Rutson. “I'm loving everything oversized on top. It just makes a look so much more modern and relevant.” She references Demna Gvasalia’s use of larger-than-life proportion—as seen in his collections for Balenciaga and Vetements—as her style inspiration.

As for tips on finding the perfect pair of jeans, Rutson says follow your instinct. “When you try a pair of jeans, look in the mirror, and if like what you see and feel good, then it’s a keeper,” she explains. “If you are moving around, stressing over if it’s flattering and needing to call in for backup opinions, then that is a huge indicator that in reality you will never feel happy or confident wearing them.”

A noted denim connoisseur, Rutson swears by jeans from Junya Watanabe and always invests in a pair every year. “They are never a fad purchase, but a necessity to my personal wardrobe.” After all, who could resist this fashion staple?
