In 2004, Ciara hit us with her fire single "1, 2, Step." Now, she's got a Revlon beauty contract and 13.9 million Instagram followers. But it's the Ciara beauty evolution that we're here to appreciate today.
More than a decade ago, the Grammy award-winning singer and mother to two-year-old Future Zahir, instantly stole our hearts with catchy dance tracks like “Goodies,” and “Oh,” among a ton of others. Like a true die-hard fan, I had the lyrics to all of her songs memorized, and even performed to the song "Get Up" with my college hip- hop dance group “Bodacious,” (no, this personal highlight is not archived on YouTube). Off the dance floor, I tried to emulate her effortlessly cool-girl style—a phase that basically consisted of me only wearing crop tops hoodies, jeans, and Nikes. (I could not emulate her killer sick pack.) And now that I'm thinking about it, Ciara was a style pioneer, making athleisure chic waaay before the fashion set accepted it.
Whether on stage or on the red carpet, Ciara is also fearless when it comes to changing up her hair and makeup. Who can forget her epic gender bending music video (and uber feminist anthem), “Like A Boy,” where she wore men's jeans, a beanie, and no-nonsense hair and makeup in one shot, and big hoops, lush waves, and glittery eye shadow in the next.
Over a decade later, Ciara is a bonafide beauty icon. The Ciara beauty evolution is real! From honey blonde curls, to a jet black bob, to waist-length waves, the Princess of Crunk&B is never afraid to experiment with different lengths, textures, and hairstyles. And of course, her makeup has also ranged from soft and natural to bold and smokey, all with a signature blend of glamour and attitude. With her recent nuptials to NFL player Russell Wilson and an IMG modeling contract (not to mention being Ricardo Tisci’s muse), Ciara is having one hell of a year. We can’t wait to see what the megastar has in store.
Now, watch the video below to see Ciara's best beauty moments from 2004 to today.
