Back when "I Kissed a Girl" was the number one song on the radio, I was just a teen with a blog that no one but my dad read. Watching this video of Katy Perry's beauty evolution brought me back to one of the posts I published on Teen Revolution (please stop cringing at the name of my blog. I was the original woke teen back in 2007). I wrote about how badly I wished I could steal some of the vintage pin-up style dresses from her closet and get some recommendations on the best red lipsticks for our similarly pale skin. As a teen who frequented thrift stores instead of Hollister, I lived for Perry's look all the time.
As Perry's beauty looks evolved with her career, I continued wishing I could snag some tips from the pop star. Every time she dyed her hair a different color of the rainbow, I begged my mom to let me dye my hair a bold color. Eventually, she let me color one inch of my curly brown locks fire-engine red. But deep down in my Katy Perry-loving heart, I still dreamed of a whole head of sky blue or lavender, and I kind of still do.
When CoverGirl announced its Katy Perry collection, it was literally a Teenage Dream come true. The Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks, which come in a variety of fun shades, are truly a 100. Although I don't listen to as much Katy Perry as I used to, my love for bold lipstick has definitely stuck around.
