I think I might have found the cockroach of lipsticks. (Hear me out.) No, it looks nothing like the disgusting, hard-shelled insect, but I am convinced Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip could probably outlast an apocalypse. The matte liquid lipstick has gained popularity on Instagram with beauty bloggers, including Nikkie Tutorials. Some days, I feel like I can't scroll through my feed without seeing at least a handful pictures of it. (It's like the lipstick version of the cult-favorite BH Cosmetics galaxy palette.) Even Beyonce's protégés, Chloe and Halle, count it as their go-to lipstick.
But somehow, Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip never made it into my life until this week. I've seen videos on Instagram of swatches of the product being run under water and not smudging. In my days as a beauty editor, I've tried a myriad of liquid lipsticks (at least ten, if you're wondering), and many claim to be long-lasting and even kiss-proof. But waterproof and smudge-proof? I was intrigued, so I was eager to put the lipstick to the test myself.
Because I'm currently obsessed with all things glitter, I first tried the Berried Metallic Lip Whip, a shimmery berry shade. (Beauty Bakeri has an amazing color range, from pale pink to royal blue to pitch black. I had a hard time picking just one shade.) Unfortunately, the first time I brushed it on, it made my lips feel like they were shriveling up like a dry sponge. The company recommends drinking water throughout the day to keep lips naturally hydrated, but I needed instant relief. So I tried to remove the glittery red from my lips with a makeup wipe, and nothing happened. The product was impenetrable. I resorted to their Lip Whip Remover wipes, even though I'd originally written them off as superfluous. (I really thought a basic, standard makeup wipe would work.) The second time, I swiped on my new favorite fall lip moisturizer, the Ogee Sculpted Lip Oil, first. The hydrating base proved to be an excellent primer for the lipstick. This time, my lips felt much more comfortable.

More liquid lipsticks we love:
After applying Berried, I went on with my day. I ate several scoops of fancy gelato, a knish, and salad (in that order). Then, I took a shower (and, of course, washed my face). When I went to go brush my teeth, I looked in the mirror to see that the lipstick still remained. I didn't have the remover wipes with me, so I scrubbed it away with coconut oil on a soft toothbrush (since no amount of water or face wash could make this baby budge.) I probably could have run in the New York City Marathon with this liquid lipstick on, eaten a whole large pizza, and made out with the entire New York Knicks roster—and still had perfect glittery red lips.
The Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip is available now for $20 on beautybakerie.com. Choose your shade wisely because you'll be stuck with it on your lips for 24 hours.
