Janelle Monae's Blue Liner Look Is So On Trend

We just told you that drawing blue liner on the lower lash line is the latest red-carpet trend. Olivia Munn and Joan Smalls gave us major makeup inspo, and Janelle Monae's blue liner look from last night was another to add to the must-try-as-soon-as-humanly-possible list. For the 2016 IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City, the singer/actress (Moonlight was her debut appearance on the silver screen) traced a shimmery sky blue below her waterline. With her all-black outfit, which was designed by Christian Siriano, the unexpected metallic color helped Monae look more like she was an award winner and less like she was headed to a funeral after the event. Moonlight won all four of the awards it was nominated for last night, and TBH Monae should have won an award for her blue liner. Of course, the rest of the look was awesome, too. Janelle Monae's blue liner was paired with black winged liner on her upper lids, superglowy skin, and a magenta lipstick that we need the details on, like, yesterday.

This isn't the first time Monae has experimented with colored liner this month. At the AMAs, she slayed us with a fiery red below her waterline. (We even named her look one of the best of the night). With red eye makeup as one of the go-to trends for fall, this girl sure knows how to make the look her own. Her second movie, Hidden Figures, comes out in January 2017, and we can't see what she has up her sleeve (rather, in her makeup bag) for the premiere.
