Lady Gaga's Crystal Liner Is So Major

By now, we're all familiar with Lady Gaga's new alter ego, "Joanne", with her denim shorts, cropped t-shirts, and baby-pink cowboy hat. The look is decidedly sweeter and simpler than her previous styles—a far cry from being covered in raw meat or donning cheek prosthetics—but she's still finding a way to express her love of the eccentric. Last night, Lady Gaga's crystal liner took cat eyes to the next level, using a little bit of bling and a whole lot of false lashes.

Instead of just using a glitter-flecked liner, Gaga's sharp wings were created with a string of sequin-like crystals that ran diagonally across her lids, extended up and out towards her temples, and angled back down to the outer corner of her eyes. Two black crystals filled in the empty space while black liner and heavy-duty lash strips added definition, giving the entire look a sixties, Twiggy-esque vibe. Lady Gaga's crystal liner coordinated perfectly with the collar of her leather jacket and the silver hair tie holding up her bun. She posted a picture explaining that a fan in Tokyo gave her the crystal-adorned Joanne hair tie as a gift. (Cue the awws.)

What I love about this look is that it's flashy, but not so flashy that you couldn't pull it off in real life. And you don't need a string of crystals to do it. Using a silver liquid liner (like the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Liquid Liner) or pigment (Pat McGrath's Silver 005 would be perfect for this), you could draw on a row of circles along your top lids, creating the illusion of real crystals. It will take a little patience and a steady hand, but here's the upside of this trick—no sticky, messy lash glue necessary. Hopefully, this is also a hint of what's to come from Lady Gaga. With Victoria's Secret announcing her as one of the musical acts at their annual Fashion Show, held this year in Paris, my fingers are crossed for a lot Joanne, meaning a whole lot more pink and sparkle.
