Penis Eyeliner Is Here and We Don't Really Know Why

It might seem like every day there's a new viral makeup trend. Well, say hello to a very confusing new one—penis eyeliner. While not exactly a trend per se (thank goodness), penis eyeliner is going viral thanks to a really smart and funny teenager. Allow me to explain.

Asia Brautigam is a 19-year-old from California who took to Twitter to make a joke about the fact that there are so many makeup trends on social media. Seriously, think about it. Everything from candy cane eyeliner to glow-in-the-dark hair has blown up on social media—and that's just in the past few weeks. That's not necessarily a bad thing. People using makeup to express themselves is always a good idea, but sometimes the trends go so far that (almost) no one would actually wear them in real life. To wit, Brautigam used eyeliner to draw penises on her eyes, about in the same place a cat-eye would go. In an interview with Buzzfeed News, she explained that she "wanted to joke around about the creative and artistic eyeshadow looks" that are everywhere. She captioned her statical beauty trend with: "Wow, MUA Twitter has been so creative with their eye looks, thought I’d have my take."

Brautigam's tweet has more than 28k retweets and the number keeps growing. Girls hilariously responded with their own takes on her trend, drawing their own penis eyeliner looks and saying things like "you have inspired by deeply" and "soo in love with your look 💞😫😫 my new everyday eye makeup." (Yes, they're joking.)

While she's obviously poking fun at these viral trends and all the people who try them, Brautigam insists that she is making the joke out of love. "I think they’re all creative and amazingly talented!” she told Buzzfeed, adding, “My dick-liner will never compare!" If you follow her on Twitter, as I now do, it's obvious that she's a funny, sarcastic teen who isn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings. Still, I'm kind of hoping vagina eyeliner is next.
