Victoria's Secret Refutes Claims that Cara Delevingne Was "Too Bloated" to Walk in Fashion Show

In today’s “seriously?” news, British tabloid The Sun blasted the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show with claims that appear to be unsubstantiated. In an article published this week, The Sun took aim at the lingerie brand's model selection process, alleging that Victoria's Secret stopped Cara Delevingne from walking in the 2014 show because she was too “bloated."

Victoria’s Secret didn’t waste any time refuting said allegations. Chief Marketing Officer Edward Razek penned a letter directly to Cara calling the article "a complete fabrication." In the memo, which Cara shared on Instagram, Edward noted that her absence was due to her movie-filming schedule, and not "bloating" or weight gain. He went on to say: “We tried hard to have you there. You would have made the show better, as you do anything and everything you’re involved in.”

Cara called The Sun out in her caption, saying “It’s shameless to discuss women’s bodies just to sell papers." We couldn’t agree more. As harrowing as the experience must have been for Cara and the Victoria's Secret team, some good may come from it. There could be a 55th model on the catwalk in Paris, if Edward has his way.

The CMO closed his letter, saying: “So allow me to extend the invitation once again. If you’re free on November 30, please join us in Paris. As always, we’d love to have you. No casting necessary.” We're keeping our fingers crossed that Cara Delevingne will take the brand up on their offer, and storm the Victoria's Secret Fashion Runway in Paris this year.
