Watch as Howard University’s Ooh La La! Dance Line Takes Us Through Their Everyday Routine

Style, dedication, grace, and long hours: These are all things that make up Howard University’s Ooh La La! Dance Line. As spectators, we only see dancers slaying the field with their fierce dance moves, but there’s a lot more that goes into building this squad. To outsiders, they are a group of talented dancers but the women that make up the team consider themselves family. And once you've joined this family you must adapt to its lifestyle.

Like any team, the members of Howard University’s Ooh La La! Dance Line have a brand to uphold. Every performance entails the appropriate stage attire and makeup to match their crowd-boosting performances. But these ladies weren’t always makeup pros, a lot them gained their beauty knowledge on the job.

“Before I joined the dance team I did not know how to do anything; I didn’t even know how to put foundation on," Lauren Wiggs told Allure. Unlike Kim K who has a glam entourage on demand, these ladies have to do their own makeup. But, the benefit is learning tricks along the way. In fact, they believe the key to having a long-lasting look relies on applying a few layers of matte finishing spray.

Overall, the dedication it takes to put on a performance, plus their newfound beauty routines has helped many of the girls break out of their shells. Several of the members who described themselves as shy and quiet have found a new platform to express themselves, thanks to their dance team. Wiggs told Allure her experience on the team has made her confident in herself. Now that's something to dance about.
