The mirror is important—just ask the evil queen from Snow White and her perfectly poreless skin. But like just about everything else in our beauty routines, the looking glass has gotten some high-tech upgrades over the years. There was the magnifying mirror, the addition of lights, and even mirrors with built-in skin analysis. It was only a matter of time until the mirror got wi-fi.
Now at Le Métier de Beauté’s Neiman Marcus counters, the Memory Makeover mirrors are starting a total reflection revolution by creating a YouTube-ready tutorial out of your makeup session. It’s kind of genius. Makeup tutorials are what made the platform such a hit among beauty bloggers, and now we can all have our own personalized lessons broken down into lips, eyes, and cheeks directly from the pros. "This new tool is an asset for all of us that want to recreate a look from the make-up artist, whether it is referencing how the product was applied or which specific products he or she used," said Kelly St. John, vice president, divisional merchandise manager for beauty at Neiman Marcus.

At first blush, this might seem like just another way to over share your personal care routine, but it’s actually super smart. Having a pro tend to your visage is awesome, but while you watch in awe as they transform your skin, you’re probably missing some key points and practical tips. The Memory Makeover mirror, which is rolling out at 20 Neiman Marcus stores around the country, is designed to be educational, tracking all the tips and tricks from your makeup artist and saving them to a platform you can reference when you’re back in front of your own analog mirror.
“Some of our products tend to be more complicated than your average product, and this is an opportunity for her to continue her education,” Richard Blanch, the founder and chief executive officer of Le Métier de Beauté, told WWD. “We are looking to create a feedback loop. As you continue your ongoing education and storing the things you like and don’t like, we want to offer you the ability to have a continuous dialog with our artists and our staff to help answer your questions and perhaps challenge yourself to try new looks.” Pure genius indeed.
