When Stranger Things hit Netflix earlier this year, the internet was ablaze in conversation about it. Fans obsessed over every detail from the killer '80s-indebted, synth-heavy soundtrack to Winona Ryder's Christmas lights-strewn abode—but there was one element of the show that went underrated: the hair. After all, Eleven's shaved head—which actress Millie Brown heroically buzzed to Beyonce's music—was practically its own character. Even outside of Eleven and her blonde wig, though, there was plenty of other hair to talk about: Like, Barbara "Barb" Holland's red locks and female lead Nancy Wheeler's brunette blow-out. When the show returns for its second season—the release date for which is still TBA—it seems that hair will continue to be a talking point.
That's because Stranger Things hairstylist Sarah Hindsgaul recently doled out some major spoilers for the show. Apparently, they include a "drastic" new look for Wheeler. "Nancy has kind of a big hair turn this year, too — they decided to do something drastic," Hindsgaul told Refinery 29. "That’s all I can tell you."
Or is it? Hindsgaul also revealed that the second season of Stranger Things will involve a lot more risky hair decisions and period styles that have since expired. "This year it is very different — we start stepping more into the ‘80s, which is kind of amazing, visually," she said. "Last year was ’83 and this year is ’84, and they’re still in Hawkins, Indiana — but people are starting to realize there are perms and mullets, so we’re using a lot of wigs this year, because no one wants perms and mullets." Next year can't come soon enough.
