For many, long hair symbolizes femininity. And short hair symbolizes the opposite, or at least, the absence of femininity. That's a narrow way of viewing things—and Twitter's #BaldAndBadChallenge proves just that.
The social media challenge has short-haired and bald beauties post selfies of themselves looking glam, in an effort to prove that women are beautiful in all of their different forms—hair or not. The challenge is empowering in so many ways, especially for those who've lost hair due to a condition like alopecia, or as the result of chemotherapy due to cancer. It can be difficult for a woman to lose her hair; it is, in effect, a loss of her identity. But the strong and powerful bald women of Twitter have banded together to show that it's okay—and yes, you can be beautiful without your hair.
