The Lipstick Queen Lipstick Chess Collection Reinvents Some Classics

In high school, my friend tried to teach me how to play chess. His attempts failed miserably, though. Maybe if the upcoming Lipstick Queen Lipstick Chess collection were around back then and he replaced the pieces with these lipsticks, I would have paid better attention. Just as the name suggest, the new line, which comes out next month, pays homage to the classic board game. How so? Each of the shades are named after different chess pieces, and they are just as classic as the game. Yup, the company who brought us color-changing lip and cheek products like the Smokey Lip Kit and the green-but-actually-pink Frog Prince Cream Blush is taking a more archetypal approach with their new line for 2017. Lipstick Queen knows how to make a damn good lipstick (if you ask me), so even though the shades aren't as daring as usual, some of the nudes and berries in the collection are sure to replace some of the go-to neutrals right now.

More lipsticks you should try in 2017:

  2. LancĂ´me's Latest Metallic Lipstick Is Like the Best Unicorn Tears Ever
  3. This $5 Drugstore Liquid Lipstick Is Better Than Ones 5 Times the Price

All of the new lipsticks in the chess-themed collection have a super velvety matte finish that applied with just one swipe from the black-and-white bullet. The formula is packed with hydrating ingredients like vitamin E and natural oils, so you won't have to break out one of M.A.C.'s new lip scrubs after a day of wearing these babies. Instead, the lipsticks have a weightless comfort to them that makes you forget you're even wearing lipstick. I've been keeping Determined Mauve Bishop, a, well, mauve shade, in my purse a lot lately because it basically goes with everything. Ruby Red Queen comes in a close second as one of my favorites. I'm convinced that even the Queen of England would appreciate the subtle cherry red shade. It's so easy to dress up an outfit with or play down with a bit of mascara.

As for the other shades, there's Rich Berry King and Deep Plum Rook for those who like a little color in their beauty routines. Dashing Mocha Night and Subtle Nude Pawn, on the other hand, are amazing nudes. Ready to play with them, too? All six shades from the Lipstick Queen Lipstick Chess collection launch on Sunday, January 1, on lipstickqueen.com for $24 each.
