Zendaya's skin is what aesthetician's dreams are made of: It's clear, smooth, and, girl, does it glow. So when the Zendaya skin-care secrets started spilling on her new website and app, including the must-have, multipurpose hydrator she uses for just about everything, we had to bust out our notebooks and start taking copious notes.
So what's the secret to the 20-year-old's super-soft skin, soles, and pout? Surprisingly, a skin-care product you'd most likely find stocked on the shelves of your local drugstore and your mom's bathroom cabinet: good 'ol Aquaphor, the petrolatum-based ointment our families have been slathering on skin—to soothe cuts, cracks, burns, itches, etc.—for decades. And while Zendaya smooths on the hydrating balm to remedy dry, cracked feet ("Before I go to bed, I rub some of the magic on my heels to keep them soft," she says) or to ease the pain of seasonal chapped lips ("It moisturizes my lips at all times and looks like clear gloss."), the CoverGirl ambassador has a few other Aquaphor hacks up her sleeve to get every use out of her trusty tub.
Case in point: Who knew the ointment could also be used as a highlighting primer? Obviously Zendaya did, as she applies the balm to her cheekbones pre-luminator. "Like I tell y'all in my 'the BARE beat' makeup tutorial, I dab Aquaphor where I want my highlight to be," she says. "Then I put my highlighter on top and boom!" Please excuse us while we take a moment to thank Zendaya for this new-to-us highlighter technique.
