Bright and early this morning, insanely popular K-pop group BTS dropped the music video for their new single "DNA", as well as their brand-new album HER. (I want to wake up to new BTS every morning.) I thought the teasers for the video and the comeback photos sufficiently prepared my mind, body, and spirit for the four minutes and 15 seconds of "DNA", but I really, really wasn't.
I'm not ready to admit how many times I've already watched the music video, but it's enough for "DNA" to be stuck in my head word-for-word. Because I'm a beauty reporter, I can't just watch BTS's music videos for their impressive choreography and enviable, brightly colored styling. My brain dissects every second for the best beauty moments without even realizing it. And damn, did "DNA" deliver. The hair and makeup was so BTS and so right. It was a smoky eye, rainbow hair, glossy lip extravaganza.
Let's break down all the best beauty moments by member.
Jungkook
First and foremost, this light brown shade is probably the lightest I've ever seen Jungkook's hair (and probably will ever see). Combined with the tousled look and glossy lips, BTS's golden maknae came to slay.
His other beauty moments were so low key that you might have missed them, like his glowy skin and ever-so-subtle shadow defining his eyes.
V
Is it just me or did V's hair color look completely different in every single scene? It goes from light brown to brown with blue highlights to ashy blue. I couldn't keep up. All the changes were due to the music video's filter, but still. Most of all, I'm just glad his baby bangs that he teased on Twitter didn't make an appearance. I was stressed they would be cemented into K-pop history forever.
At one point, V's lips looked bright red. Special effects probably made them happen, not Nars Rita. If he really had swiped on a candy apple shade of lipstick, I wish we could have gotten a close up of that look.
J-Hope
No one looks better with pumpkin spice hair than J-Hope. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's glad he returned to the coppery orange shade. During one of the dance sequences, it looked so silky and shiny. On behalf of everyone who has ever bleached and/or dyed their hair, please tell us your secrets, J-Hope.
He may or may not have been wearing an orange-y lip tint during this part of the music video. Do you think it was from Etude House? (I apologize for this weirdly timed screenshot. J-Hope is too expressive to take a neutral-looking one.)
Monochromatic hair and makeup was the biggest beauty theme of "DNA," and J-Hope's all-copper-everything look, including eye shadow, has offically been added to my fall beauty inspiration board.
Rap Monster
TBH Rap Monster had the least amount of notable beauty moments in "DNA". (He makes up for it in his lyric and rapping, of course.) His flippy hair was adorable. As I mentioned when BTS first revealed their new hairstyles for this comeback, I love seeing RM forehead action.
If you look closely, you can see his usual under-the-radar smoky eye makeup that made an appearance at the BBMAs, too.
Jin
Dark Jin might just be my favorite Jin. Pink Jin previously held the top spot, but "DNA" is changing my mind. He looks unreasonably good with black hair.
Peep him with bedhead vibes behind Rap Monster. I'm weak.
Also, can we discuss how Jin has the most luscious lips in K-pop? The next time I get lip fillers, I'm showing my dermatologist this picture of Jin.
Jimin
The most obvious beauty moment for Jimin is his new wavy blonde hair. It's like the 2017 version of Justin Timberlake's infamous bleached hair — in the best way possible.
Of course, Jimin continued his reign as king of smoky eye makeup with "DNA." I'm so ready for all the beauty tutorials that are about to pop up on YouTube for these looks. I want to recreate the burgundy-toned one.
Suga
I'm still not over Suga's teal hair. Seeing it in action gave me heart palpitations. I have a leaky valve, so it could just be that. The cuteness is undeniable, though. Just look at him. I know he denies the theory that he dyes his hair to look like each new album, but it coordinates with HER so well. I respect a man who fits a theme.
Suga's gray hair also made a return appearance. No, I'm not crying. I just have bad allergies right now.
