Last year, we reported that requests for injectables had risen by 40 percent within the last five years, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. And now, it looks like the plumped-up trend has officially made its way to the runway. Kind of.
For the spring/summer 2018 Adam Lippes show on Saturday, models were sent down the runway after a thorough lip-volumizing session, courtesy of a device known as Perk. Perk, a portable, in-office treatment, uses a gentle suction process (read: no needles) to exfoliate dead skin cells off of lips, while simultaneously plumping them — all in less than 10 minutes. Sounds promising, right? The treatment, which also included a swipe of lip serum made of boosting peppermint oil and nourishing peony extract, was given to all models before they made their way to the catwalk.
Following the lip treatment, aestheticians used the same device to give models' a makeshift facial — the exfoliating wand sucked up dead skin cells, which brightened skin and gave cheeks a natural rosy flush — before GlamSquad makeup artists created the final look: the dewy, no-makeup makeup look we've seen season after season.
Is Perk the future of backstage beauty? Who knows, but here's what we do know: If all it takes for a natural-looking, plumped-up set of lips, sign us up.
