CoverGirl has become known for focusing on diversity and inclusivity. That fact is evident in its wide range of skin tone shades and their growing roster of CoverGirl ambassadors. They’ve recently appointed Maye Musk (she’s 69), Ayesha Curry, Issa Rae, James Charles (their first male model), Zendaya, Janelle Monáe, Nura Afia (the first to wear a hijab), and Queen Latifah.
You won’t find their newest CoverGirls on the red carpet — you’ll find them working out. Shelina Moreda is a pro motorcycle road racer who was the first female to race a motorcycle at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Massy Arias is an in-demand personal trainer who shares her fitness tips and workouts with more than two million people on Instagram alone.
Moreda’s race day look always includes eye makeup peering through her helmet. “My partnership with CoverGirl shows the world that it's okay to have an active, yet powerful career and still value feeling pretty,” she said in a statement. “I am happy that I’m able to encourage other people to unapologetically be themselves, pursue what they love, and share it with the world,” she added.
Arias is known for her fitness program, MA30Day, and sharing her own fitness journey. (She has said that wellness helped her recover from depression.) Although she says she experienced stigmas about wearing makeup at the gym, she’ll wear it anyway because it makes her feel confident and that’s the most important thing. “It’s really a personal choice, and I wish there wasn’t so much judgment around it. If the flick of a cat-eye, or a brick red lip, gives you some extra motivation and feeling of, ‘I got this,’ why not go for it? COVERGIRL’s belief that you can wear makeup when, where and however you want is really about personal transformation – just like fitness,” she says.
