Harry Josh Releases New Ultra Light Hair Dryer

Celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh's Pro Tools 2000 Pro Dryer is a cult-status dryer that already seemed perfect to us. Indeed, it won our Best of Beauty award in 2014, 2015, and 2016. You would think a product that good doesn't necessarily need improving, but Josh decided to go against the adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," in favor of taking his decidedly not broken tool and making it better than ever. Folks, it's officially time to get excited for the Harry Josh Ultra Light Pro Dryer, a new iteration of his famous mint-green miracle tool.

That isn't to say the hairstylist, who has blessed the strands of people like Cindy Crawford, Gisele Bündchen, and Karlie Kloss, wasn't happy with how his beloved dryer worked in the first place. As he told Allure over the phone, "This one is for the fans." Josh said that the idea to upgrade the dryer came from the feedback of people who loved the tool, but thought it would be even better with some small tweaks. "The fans, specifically, were like 'I love it, but I wish it was lighter. I love it, but I wish it was faster. I love it, but I wish I could attach an extender on the nozzle.' Mainly, a hairdresser asked because at a lot of the [salons] across the country and the world, they put their hair dryers in a little nook, and slip the neck of the dryer in there. And because the dryer is so compact, it never fit in there."

Not only is the dryer faster, drying your hair at speeds up to 94 miles per hour (as opposed to the previous 80), but it's also much lighter, weighing in at under a pound (without the cord). The motor inside is also much quieter, which if you're sensitive to noise, or just like listening to music or watching TV as you blow-dry your hair, is a huge plus. "The fact that it's almost silent when you use it, it's kind of weird because you're like, 'is it working? Is it on?' but you can tell when you're drying your hair that it clearly is, in fact, on," Josh said.

Josh's new dryer has an 11-foot extension cord and also comes with a long nozzle concentrator for those who prefer to grip that part of their dryer. Oh, and you won't have to worry about burning your hands because the nozzle extension is made with patented Cool Air Flex Technology. The 12-heat and speed-setting dryer also has an ionic feature built in for those that need some extra help smoothing out their strands. "It's great for those girls with frizzy hair or stubborn hair that doesn't blow out so easily. You just switch on the ionic feature and boom, it becomes an ionic dryer. For girls with finer, flat hair, they want to have a regular blow-dryer — they don't need the ions on their hair strands. Click it, [and you're] back to a regular dryer." The tool also boasts a new, curved handle to make it more comfortable while you're using it.

Josh mentioned to Allure that this version of his dryer was four years in the making and that he specifically wanted to focus on keeping the quality consistent. "I wanted to make sure I was delivering to the fans nothing that was disappointing. Me, as a hairdresser, in the past when I would buy tools that I love and was obsessed with, the minute someone bought them or they [manufactured in] different places, the formula changed, or the tools weren't performing as well as they did." Josh assures fans that they won't have to worry about the quality with this upgrade. It may be lighter and quieter, but it's definitely better than ever.

The improvements upon the original dryer come with a bit of a larger price tag. This dryer is $349, as opposed to the original's $249 price point. But yeah, it's still totally worth it. The dryer is poised to launch on dermstore.com on October 23, but you can pre-order it right now.
