Meet "AstroFrecks": Dainty Face Tattoos Inspired By Your Astrological Sign

Playing connect the dots with your facial features just got a lot more fun, thanks to "AstroFrecks," a new style of freckle tattoos that lets you map out constellations and astrological signs with a smattering of semi-permanent tiny dots all over your face.

Faux freckles have been having a major moment lately, even reaching permanent status when people began inking their skin with "freckle tattoos" earlier this year. And now, the new astrologically inclined designs, created by Michigan-based tattoo artist Jessica Knapik, take the fake freckle look one step further, giving a secret meaning to the seemingly random spots on your face.

"This way you could get your mom's astrological sign, your dad's, your grandma's, and kind of pay tribute without getting a giant heart that says 'Mom,'" Knapik told Bustle of the trend.

Knapik said she uses a semi-permanent "cosmetic tattooing" method, which helps make the freckles look more like the real thing than a regular or stick-and-poke tattoo. "Cosmetic tattoo artists are trained a little more in aesthetics — beauty, face shapes, brow shapes. Cosmetic tattooing is also semi-permanent, so this won't last forever," she added. "It's perfect for freckles, because the older ones will be more faint and the newer ones will be darker, exactly like real freckles. And if you're sick of it, you just stop getting touch-ups and go back to how your face was before."

To create the out-of-this-world look, Knapik draws the constellation on her clients' faces with a marker, then injects the freckles wherever there's a star. She recently confirmed in her Instagram comments that the freckles do fade over time, and that she has different colored ink that can be used to match any skin tone. So far, she's only given "AstroFrecks" to one person (who's a Virgo, by the looks of it), but she hopes to do many more in the future.
