Video: Electrostimulation Sex Toy Review by Sex Educator Zoë Ligon

While there is increasing awareness of BDSM in our dialogue around sexuality, it is frequently stereotyped as being synonymous with abuse or reduced to solely being about bondage and impact play. But there is another realm in the world of consensual kink, one that’s often associated with BDSM: erotic electrostimulation, or the use of toys to apply electrical currents to our erogenous zones. I’m someone who sells sex toys for a living, and I have personal experience with nearly every type of sex tool on this green earth — so when Super Deluxe and I teamed up to create our sex toy review series Sex Stuff, I jumped at the opportunity to try out this new type of sensation implement.

I’d heard about the Violet Wand and Neon Wand before, and loved how futuristic and Blade Runner-y they looked, but I’d never seen or experienced either in the flesh. Erotic electrostimulation sounds frightening AF, but it’s actually quite safe, relatively speaking (anything can be harmful if used incorrectly!). These wands will shock you, but not electrocute you like a household outlet would — think more along the lines of a soft shock from a doorknob, except in a continuous wave. I couldn’t wrap my mind around why anyone would find this erotic, but oh — I got it as soon as I tried it.

Not only did the champagne-bubble sensation against my skin feel like ASMR tingles, I was blown away by how it felt when my friend Julia grabbed a wand with one hand and touched me with the other. Yes, you can also use your body to conduct electricity from the wand to another person, and it feels truly magical to have skin-to-skin contact with someone else while using a e-stim toy.

To learn more about how this unique type of toy can be used, check out the full second episode of Sex Stuff above (see the first here) and enjoy all the wacky faces I make when I’m erotically electrostimulated for the very first time.
