Caitlyn Jenner Reveals Skin Cancer Was Removed From Her Nose

Never underestimate the importance of sunscreen, or you could potentially open yourself up to the dangers of skin cancer. Unfortunately, Caitlyn Jenner found this out the hard way, as she recently shared her experience on Instagram in an effort to warn others against making the same mistake.

On Tuesday, Jenner uploaded a picture of herself in a white robe with what appeared to be quite a lot of skin missing from the tip of her nose. In the caption, she explained exactly what happened. "I recently had to get some sun damage removed from my nose," she shared. "PSA- always wear your sunblock!" Although Jenner didn't specify what kind of sun damage had to be removed or whether it was cancerous, People confirmed she had "cancerous basal cell carcinoma" removed from her nose.

As Allure previously reported, basal cell carcinoma is one of the top two most common types of skin cancer, the other one being squamous cell carcinoma. Basal cell carcinoma can look like a zit or a mole and is usually pinkish or flesh-toned in color, while squamous cell carcinoma looks more like a wart that bleeds if scratched or bumped.

Now, a third, rare type of skin cancer is reportedly on the rise. In February, a new study found that cases of Merkel cell carcinoma, which looks like a mole but is actually really aggressive and possibly fatal, are rising six times faster than other skin cancer types. To decrease your chances of acquiring any type of skin cancer, stick to safe sun practices, like wearing your sunscreen (at least SPF 30), opting for shaded areas, and visiting your dermatologist for regular skin checks.
