The latest celeb to reveal that they also battle the widespread condition is none other than Jonathan Van Ness — a.k.a. the beloved and always well-coiffed groomer on Netflix's reboot of Queer Eye. Van Ness got real about his psoriasis in an unretouched Instagram post on Thursday, March 8, in which he's shown opening up a black Supreme jacket to just a pair of Calvin Klein boxer briefs underneath.
"Sickeningly Gorge, I left my psoriasis & my body unretouched, why should I dim my shine henny? 📸 @asussmanphoto #mensbeauty," reads the caption. The photo, which has already amassed over 50,000 likes, instantly sparked a massive response from fans and other psoriasis sufferers who were inspired by the actor's vulnerability and willingness to be so open. The comment section quickly became inundated with messages from fellow people fighting the skin condition, all of whom praised Van Ness for his realness and for helping to smash the stigma surrounding psoriasis that still persists.
"You are literally goals 😍 Inspiring, gorgeous, kind and so confident! I totally am in love with your soul 🌌," wrote one commenter. "Almost every member of my family have been hit extremely hard by psoriasis. Reading your post is INSPIRING! You are a super inspiration and don’t ever forget it!" reads another. And those are just two of countless accolades from fans positively impacted by his post. The comments have continued to roll in at a rapid rate, with many of them coming from those who know first-hand what it's like to battle the chronic condition and appreciated Van Ness bringing awareness to the cause. By showing his true self, psoriasis and all, Van Ness is further breaking down the misconception that celebs are "perfect" and don't ever have skin woes like the rest of us do.
Obviously, Van Ness is a beauty — inside and out — regardless of his psoriasis. And the same goes for anyone else out there struggling with epidermis issues of their own.
