We may be officially in the throes of spring (hooray!), but that doesn't necessarily mean temperatures are about to drastically skyrocket. (Womp, womp.) Truth is, it's still cold as hell outside, which means two things: My skin is unusually dry and dehydrated, and yes, I'm super salty about it. Luckily, I've found a semi-solution: Biossance's Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer. (I say "semi" because nothing can truly lift this spirit. That is, unless you know how to magically crank up the temps in New York City, then, in that case, I love you.)
Biossance (pronounced bio-sAHnse, like renaissance), an Environmental Working Group-verified skin-care brand with a range of products pumped with squalane, recently launched its Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer, and it's as moisturizing as moisturizers get. The lightweight, gel-based hydrator is made with squalane — not to be confused with squalene, which is a natural moisturizing agent derived from shark liver oil — a plant-based, saturated form of squalene made from sugar cane. It's also formulated with red seaweed and ginger extract to calm redness and soothe irritated skin.
All of this is to say, the second I start to tap the bouncy, gel-cream onto my skin, it instantly sinks in, hydrating (and healing) deep down. Oh, and it feels great, too. Imagine slathering an ice cream cone all over your face (just go with it, OK?). It's cold but refreshing in all the best ways. That's what dabbing a hefty dollop of the Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer onto my winter-worn skin feels like: frosty but hydrated.
And on those days when I'm feeling extra dry (hi, like every day this winter), I usually follow up the Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer with a thick neck cream and whipped eye cream for added hydration. Then I bundle! Warmer weather, please come soon.
