Things I'm generally skeptical about in life include JFK conspiracy theories, crystals, and face primers. Those may be three very different things, but I'll sooner believe in ghosts than a face primer that helps my foundation last longer on my oily skin or a chunk of rock that can bring me love and happiness. (And don't even get me started on JFK — I'm from Texas.) The Stellar Brilliant Primer, however, is helping me get over one of my strongly-helped skepticisms.
Before reaching for my mattifying foundation (I am currently using the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Foundation), I slathered a pea-sized amount of Stellar primer all over my face. The silicone-spiked formula was so soft that I thought I was spreading liquid velvet on my face. However, it didn't feel the least bit thick or smothering. The primer quickly absorbed into my skin without feeling like a heavy extra layer of product.
Turns out grapeseed oil and safflower seed oil are to thank for this. Both are rich in linoleic acid, which is an omega-6 fatty acid that helps make the oil more lightweight and lends to speedier absorption rates. Of all the oil options out there, these are the most-often recommended to those with acne-prone and oily skin. If you have dry skin, don't feel left out. Your parched epidermis will still reap the hydrating benefits of the oils.
Another thing I liked about this primer is its lavender-toned pink tint. In the world of color correcting, that translates to a brighter, perkier-looking complexion because the pink and purple tones in the primer help cancel out yellow and greenish hues in the skin (which is what can make your skin look sallow). The tint is so subtle, though, that it won't make deeper skin tones look ashy or chalky. The purplish tone is also helpful on no-makeup makeup days when you want to skip foundation — just swap the primer in for a highlighter. Tap it onto the high points of your face as you would with any other luminizing product. Because it's not packed with chunky shimmer or dewy oils, the primer illuminates your skin with a subtle, natural-looking glow.
After putting on my foundation, I realized that thanks to the primer, my skin looked smoother and more radiant. More people commented on how good my complexion looked — better than usual apparently. I'm not a huge fan of the texture of my skin, so I'll take it. Plus, my foundation didn't float to the top of my skin like little icebergs by noon like it typically does without primer. Instead, my mid-day greasiness looked intentionally dewy.
I still have my reservations about face primer (and crystals and conspiracy theories), but the Stellar Brilliant Primer is slowly but surely making me a believer.
