When Romanian makeup artist Linda Weisz realized she missed the last Halley's Comet in 1986 because she wasn't born yet and won't see the next one until 2061, she decided to bring the astral phenomenon to her lids. The result, which Weisz shared on Instagram, was an ethereal cut crease look that's equally striking and subtle. I have a feeling you're going to want to recreate it for the next music festival on your calendar.
Weisz's Halley's Comet epiphany occurred after watching a new anime series called Violet Evergarden, which she says is "essential[ly] a veteran girl's story about overcoming grief." During one of the episodes Weisz saw, the main character comes across a comet that she will only see once in her lifetime. "Naturally, I got curious about which comets I could see," Weisz tells Allure. "After doing my own research, I discovered that Halley's Comet was the only one that could be seen, in 2061, with the naked human eye, hence the idea of drawing it next to my eye."
To recreate the rare comet in cut crease form, Weisz started off by priming her lids with the Wet n Wild Photo Focus Concealer and setting them with RCMA's No-Color Powder. This helped her lay down a blank canvas.
Then, Weisz drew on the shape of the comet with the Nyx Faux Whites Eye Brightener in Lavender Blush, starting with the inner corner, to give it "that spotlight effect" near the front and tail. Next, she packed on purple shades from Kat Von D Saint + Sinner Palette above the inner corner of her eye for the base of the comet. (The palette is sold out, but try the purples in the Bobbi Brown Crystal Drama Eyeshadow Palette instead.) She also swept on the shades Catherderal (a metallic blue-toned silver) and Heaven (a silver) to make the tail glow. (The Bobbi Brown palette has similar silver shades, too.)
"To clean up the edges and enhance the glowy effect around it, I also went around the comet with the Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk," she adds. Finally, she lined her upper and lower lash lines with the Eddie Funkhouser Graffiti Creme Eye Pencil to complement her fluffy false lashes: the Aether Lashes in Fairy Floss. She also kept her brows minimal by grooming them with the Eyeko Brow Gel, which also happens to be my personal favorite brow product.
For Coachella's second weekend or whatever music festival you have coming up, Weisz suggests trying out the same celestial shape with different colors. You could even try out different shapes for the base of the comet, like a heart or triangle. "Have fun with it," Weisz says, "Remember to always get creative and allow your makeup to make you feel even more you."
