Finally, Bralettes for Large Breasts Are Coming

With the bralette trend gaining momentum with both high-fashion and fast-fashion brands, it's frustrating to many (myself included) that there aren't many companies making bralettes for large breasts that are the least bit supportive. Sure, some stores stock bralettes that go up to a "large," but they're often made from flimsy fabric that just doesn't cut it. (No support, no structure, no way.) Okay, maybe they're cute for sleep but who wears a bra to bed? Not me, that's for sure.

According to Medical Daily, the average bra size in the U.S. is a 34DD. That means most women can't fit into the largest size bralette available, which can make those with curves feel irrelevant. New York-based lingerie brand Uye Surana is helping solve the problem. The company has always offered a wide range of made-to-order bra sizes, but is now raising funds through Kickstarter to bring bralettes for large breasts into its current rotation. Women will soon be able to shop them faster and easier.

My Look: Model Paloma Elsesser:

"As more people started learning about how great our fit is, we kept getting more and more requests for full cup sizes and larger band sizes," Lohla Jani, Uye Surana's creative coordinator, told Refinery29. "We thought the time was right to fund those development costs up front and bring those sizes into our core to make ordering with us faster for more of those customers." That great fit Jani is talking about includes fully adjustable straps and hook-back closures, as well as patent-pending "reinforced underwing support" which claims to lift breasts up and hold them in, sans wire.

It looks like the need for more supportive bralettes is a very real one, since Uye Surana has surpassed its Kickstarter goal by almost $2,000—and the campaign still has 20 more days to go. For its Kickstarter campaign images, the company used real women, reports Refinery29. What's next for the brand if the bralettes are a success? A lower-priced line and swimwear are possible. We'll be watching every fully supported step of the way.
