'America's Next Top Model' Is Back and More Diverse Than Ever

To us, there was basically no hope for the future of America's Next Top Model when Tyra Banks announced she'd be vacating her role as host of the reality TV competition show after an incredible 22-season run. Frankly, we thought we'd never smize again.

But VH1 is giving us hope—and bringing our smize back—when they just dropped an extended trailer for the rebooted ANTM, with new host Rita Ora, and well, it looks good—like really, really good. good. Like start practicing your catwalk good.

For the official reboot, which is technically Cycle 23 of the series, the premise has a familiar feel to seasons past:

Because this time around, with Cycle 23, the entire series has been rebooted. It's not just a competition about catwalking and smizing, though of course we'd be lying if we said those didn't matter. A slew of women vie to earn a $100,000, along with a commercial for Rimmel London and a magazine spread. But this year introduces us to four new hosts, including body positivity champion and model Ashley Graham. (For that alone, we've already set our DVRs.) Then there's Law Roach, the stylist known for his work with Zendaya and Drew Elliot and also the creative director at PAPER, will join Graham, while Rita Ora takes over the reins as host.

And don't worry—it's not like all things Tyra will be lost (not sure if you were worried, but you know), as Banks will remain on the show as Executive Producer—and from what we're hoping, makes frequent show appearances. She already appears in the trailer, marking her first cameo of what we're almost positive will be many.

But why the trailer really captured our attention was how transparent they were about embracing diversity and continuing to broaden the defintion of—and standards for—beauty. With a slew of different skin tones, hairstyles and overall looks flashed across the four-and-a-half minute trailer, we found it remarkably refreshing. What's more, though, is that it shouldn't be surprising: If you consider how many strides the fashion industry has taken to embrace all sizes, shapes and colors, it's only natural that ANTM followed suit. As one model says in the trailer, "Beauty isn't defined by the color of your skin." one model says.

Watch the trailer, below. The new season of America's Next Top Model premieres on December 12.
