Hillary Clinton Voters Plan to Wear Pantsuits on Election Day

You don’t need to be up-to-date on politics to know that Hillary Clinton and pantsuits go hand-in-hand. The democratic presidential nominee and self-acclaimed pantsuits aficionado—she’s made several self-deprecating jokes about her beloved style staple—hasn't shown much interest in fashion, but she certainly knows how clothes can be used to her political advantage.

Case in point: the birth of National Pantsuit Day. On Election Day, November 8, Clinton fans will not only showcase their support by voting for the candidate, they’ll also sport their own version of Clinton’s blazer-trouser attire.

To organize the effort, they’ve created a private Facebook group, which has gathered over 400,000 members in two weeks, according to The Wall Street Journal. The invitation-only page features words of support for the Democratic nominee and uplifting stories for its members who’ve been significantly stressed by the election.

On the opposite side, Donald Trump backers are seeking to show their support for the Republican candidate by encouraging each other to wear red—the color closely associated with the right-wing party.

This is not the first time Clinton’s signature two-piece has garnered the public’s attention. Last month, over 200 dancers clad in pantsuits staged a flash mob dance party in Manhattan’s Union Square Park. Dubbed “#PantsuitPower,” the pop-up performance featured principals from the Martha Graham Dance Company, members of Broadway’s Fiddler on the Roof, break-dancers, and ballerinas dancing to Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop the Feeling. The video has over 1.1 million views on Vimeo so far.

For those in need of a pantsuit, consider some of the suiting options from the fall 2016 runways. Office-appropriate pairings ran the gamut from relaxed, fluid shapes at The Row and Tibi, to slimmer, sleek versions at Gucci and Tory Burch. Ralph Lauren, who’s dressed Clinton for her most recent televised appearances, sent down an array of suits in wool and even suede for both of his fall 2016 collections. Reebok also showed its support for the candidate with a reimagined, athleisure versions of the two-piece—complete with a cross-strap sports bra.

Still not convinced the style is for you? Consider the suit as a wardrobe investment; you can maximize your outfit by separating the pieces—try a pair of skinny jeans with the blazer or rock a crop top with the trousers like Gigi Hadid. For a more casual look, forgo the pumps and put on your favorite pair of sneakers instead. Comfortable workwear? It gets our vote.
