The Fin Vibrator Is the First Sex Toy Ever to Be Admitted to Kickstarter

You might not know the company Dame Products, but you probably know its vibrator. In 2014, Dame's first sex toy—Eva—became the most highly funded adult product in the history of online crowdfunding, raising $575,000 in 45 days. Needless to say, the need for female-friendly sex toys is real. Two years later, Dame is back with its Fin vibrator, a tiny finger vibe meant to be worn during partnered or solo sex. Dame is crowdsourcing Fin through Kickstarter, which might not seem like a big deal. Why not have a vagina-friendly sex toy on the platform? Well, there's actually never been a sex toy on Kickstarter before. Weird, right? “Until now, this industry has been separated from all others,” co-founder Alexandra Fine said in a statement. “We’re consistently driven by the notion that vibrators are tools for sexual wellness and sexual agency. We’d like to make them more approachable, reliable and functional for anyone who’s interested.”

Fine, along with co-founder Janet Lieberman, created the Fin vibrator—and Eva, for that matter—to help close the pleasure gap between men and women, providing the clitoral stimulation that so many women need to climax. Like Eva, Fin can be used during penetration without physically getting in the way like phallic vibrators can do. Unlike Eva, which is hands-free, Fin is specifically meant to be worn between your or your partner's fingers. It acts like an extension of your hands, which, when used during masturbation, can be more comfortable and natural-feeling than traditional, larger vibes. It's made from medical-grade silicone, is rechargeable, and incorporates a three-speed motor, so it's basically guaranteed to get you off.

Fine holds a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Columbia and Lieberman is a MIT-educated mechanical engineer. They came together to elevate the sex toy market from what often seems like sex toys created by men and for, well, men's enjoyment or amusement. “Our mission is to listen to, study, and ultimately design around women’s real, unmet needs,” said Lieberman. “I spent years engineering top of the line products, but I found myself consistently accepting lower standards when it came to sex toys. We founded Dame Products out of the belief that sex toys should be held to the same standards as any other consumer product. We feel we’ve accomplished that with Fin."

Dame has raised more than $31,000 of its $50,000 goal on Kickstarter, with still almost a month to go. So, it's looking like Fin will probably come to be. If it does launch, the vibe will cost $74.95 and be delivered this December. Here's hoping Dame gets all the support to continue making even more awesome toys.
