The Olay Skin Advisor Tool Tells You *Exactly* How Old Your Skin Looks

Wouldn't it be nice if someone could tell you if your daily nine-step, anti-aging skin-care routine was actually working? Enter in the Olay Skin Advisor, an online tool that is set on doing just that. Well, sorta.

With its newly launched Skin Advisor tool, the skin-care giant is hoping to help women "take beauty into their own hands" by giving them a crazy-accurate skin age estimate, along with a personalized product regimen, based on a single selfie (more on that later), in just four steps.

So, how exactly does it work? Thanks to Olay's own VizIDTM technology, which, according to the brand is "rooted in artificial intelligence" so you know it's legit, scanned more than 50,000 faces while creating the tool in order to give users an accurate age estimate.

And along with predicting users' ages, Skin Advisor also gives feedback about certain areas of concern on their faces, which means if during the initial scan the tool noticed the user had fine lines around her eyes, when giving the results, it would provide tips and product recommendations on how to treat that specific area.

Because all of this A.I. talk fascinated me, I decided to give the Olay Skin Advisor a go. To kickstart the four-step test, I went to skinadvisor.olay.com (I found it works best on mobile, FYI) in order to find out how old (or young, I guess) my skin truly looks.

To begin, the tool first asks why you're interested in the Skin Advisor (I picked "Analyze My Skin" for a general assessment), and then asks you to take a selfie of yourself without a stitch of makeup on and with your hair pulled back (#glamorous). But because I was in the office, I decided against wiping away my freshly applied CC cream and mascara combo in favor of a nearly accurate estimate. Once the tool had my sad-looking, no-expression selfie uploaded, it was on to the questionnaire, which asks questions like "How many products do you use daily?" "Which type of products do you use?" etc.

After a few Q&As, it was on to the results, which, if I'm being completely honest (but when am I ever not?), I was slightly disappointed with my age estimate. It was a whopping ONE year older than my age IRL. How dare they! Kidding. Kind of. But seriously, aging me one year older aside, the Olay Skin Advisor is crazy accurate and gave me a thorough list of products to try to tighten up my crow's feet and slight forehead lines, which is much appreciated.

That being said, those who are looking for a fun way to play with A.I. and find out how old your selfie looks, should give the tool a shot. But remember to take the results with a grain of salt, because while its high-tech and made with a super-science-y algorithm, it shouldn't replace your annual consultation with your dermatologist. Which reminds me, it's time to book an appointment...

Now, watch how to winterize your skin-care routine:
