The Victoria’s Secret Angels Tell What It Was Like to Buy Their First

To walk into a Victoria’s Secret store is to walk into a wall-to-wall brassiere showcase. And below the cup-studded walls are drawers filled with hundreds more, in still more colors and prints and sizes. And, if you’re like me, you’ll scurry around to the most promising displays and root around for your size in your target color—nude, black, racy red—and try on about a dozen. Which makes you feel like a downright overachiever, until you consider that the Victoria’s Secret Angels collectively strap on a lion’s share of the bras you see in the stores (and in the catalogue, and online). Suffice it to say that these women have tried on hundreds, maybe thousands—and still remember their first time:

Sara Sampaio: “I had no boobs. I barely have them now, but I wanted a bra, so my grandmother and my mom took me to get a fabric training bra. I never ended up using it because it was too tight and uncomfortable. I was like, why do people wear this? I also remember buying my first Victoria’s Secret bra the first time I visited America. I tend to prefer very basic lingerie—black, red, or white—but this one was a really pretty black lacy push-up.”

Jasmine Tookes: “It was probably a Victoria’s Secret push-up bra, because when you’re that age you just want to have cleavage. And my mom probably hated that I was buying it.”
