Ashley Graham is riding one hell of a role model wave. Since making history as the first plus size woman to land the cover of Sport’s Illustrated’s iconic swimsuit issue, the model has headlined major fashion campaigns, starred as a music video muse and earned serious designer cred with her line of swimsuits and lingerie. Oh, and she’s done it all while modeling the kind of body positive big sister behavior we can all look up to. Considering her seriously impressive resume, it only seems fitting that Graham is officially getting her own Barbie doll.
Earlier this year, Mattel unveiled a line of diverse and empowering “Sheroes." The capsule collection of dolls already includes an impressive roster of badass women (Gabby Douglas, Misty Copeland and Zendaya, just to name a few) and is part of a larger Barbie reboot that includes a more realistic crop of body types, skin tones and ethnicities. With that mission in mind, Graham is the perfect ambassador.

The Ashley Graham Barbie is part of a much larger movement towards inclusivity in the world of fashion and beauty. Along with the rise in models of all shapes and sizes landing mainstream campaigns left and right (finally!), body positive movements like the rise of #MermaidThighs are spreading like wildfire throughout social media. Essentially, we’re finally entering an era where we can embrace beauty at any size. And the fact that the message is promoted by a brand that has a rich history in promoting the exact opposite is empowering AF.
