Whether it’s tiger eye hair or Lisa Frank hair we love trying new trends. So when we spotted the waterfall braid all over Pinterest, we had to get the details. To help us understand the proper way to master the look, we asked Christine Healy, a hairstylist at Rita Hazan Salon in New York City to show us how it’s done. The whole process takes about 15-20 minutes, so you’re practically done before you put on a full face of makeup, which is great for any morning routine. You’ll need a tail comb, brush, blowdryer, clips, and patience. Good luck!
Step 1: Smooth hair with a brush and blowdryer, or simply brush through with a Mason Pearson brush to detangle.
Step 2: Part hair evenly with tail comb where you want the braid to start. Section off and secure with a clip.
Step 3: Part the hair on a diagonal where you want to begin the braid and divide the hair into three even sections.
Step 4: Take the upper right hand section and cross under the middle section. Now take the left hand section and cross under the middle to your right.
Step 5: Repeat step four two or three times until you are ready to start adding hair into the braid.

Step 6: When you are ready to add hair, start feeding from the top of the braid. Pick up a section of hair in your right hand and cross under the middle to the left hand side.
Step 7: Leave the section that you picked up from the right and crossed over to the left out of the braid. Slightly move that section forward and take a section of hair from underneath on the left hand side. Cross that section that you picked up over to the right.
Step 8: Continue picking up a section from the right hand side, crossing under the middle to the left hand side and leave the section hanging. Continue by gathering another section from the left side underneath the hanging section. Repeat until you have braided the remaining hair.
And, there's your waterfall braid:
