For Anna Sui's NYFW S/S18 show, iconic makeup artist Pat McGrath sent models down the runway in an eye makeup look that was surprisingly subtle compared to seasons past. For Anna Sui's fall 2017 show, McGrath coated models' lids in a brand-new cobalt blue shadow from the Pat McGrath Labs's Dark Star 006 kit. This time around, McGrath lined the center of the models' lids with a simple vertical stripe of silver glitter. When I was backstage before the show, the first time I saw the complete look was from across the room, and I thought the model just had a bit of eye gloss on. The glitter was that understated. When I saw the line up close, I immediately started planning which day this week I would try it out.
To create the low-key look, McGrath skipped glitter glue in favor of a classic skin-care product: Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream. "We used a little bit of Eight Hour Cream and used that to stick the pigment to the eyes," she said. Makeup artists drew a line directly down the middle of the models's lids with a thin liner brush coated in the balm. Then, they continued the line below the lower lashes to the top of the models's cheekbones. Next, they pressed the glitter on top with the same brush.
As for the specific glitter used, McGrath picked out Inglot's Body Sparkle in Silver and M.A.C.'s Glitter in Reflects Pearl and Reflects Gold. She found herself inspired by one of the shadows in the upcoming eyeshadow palettes that's part of her #unlimitededition collection — as she's referring to it on Instagram — called VR. (They officially drop September 28, BTW.) "In the palette, there's a Virtual Reality color that is like a really subtle glitter," McGrath explained of the powder with a duochrome finish. To complete the look, McGrath went with intentionally clumpy lashes to fit the '60s vibe of the collection. Some models even got daisies painted on their cheeks.

If you worried about getting glitter everywhere, you could try out the same linear placement with a glittery eyeliner. NYX's Liquid Crystal Body Liner in Crystal Silver is always a good option. For less $5, you can feel the high fashion fantasy for less.
