Olivia Culpo and Justine Marjan on Their Biggest Hair Mistakes

OK, folks, even celebrity a superstar celebrity hairstylist and Mane Addicts editorial director Justine Marjan has hair disasters. As in, epic ones.

“I feel like I used to be really experimental with my hair. But when everyone was shaving the side of their heads, I shaved the side of my head, and I literally started crying right afterwards,” she told Allure at the launch of GHD's new Nocturne line of hair tools.

But that’s not all. “I did a mullet one time. I was a model for a creative cutting class, and I was like, ‘Yeah, do whatever you want.’ And then I left, and I had a mullet.”

But that’s still not all. “And then another time, my fiancé now, when we first started dating, Natalie Portman had shaved her head. And all these girls had shaved their heads and looked so cute. And he was like, ‘You should shave your head. It would look good on you.’ I shaved my head. Only guy in the world that would tell someone to do that. Literally,” she recalls. "And then I regretted it. I look back at photos and I can't believe I actually did that. I would never do it again.”

Never say never. Even the most famous names out there are susceptible to mane mishaps. Take the ever-polished Olivia Culpo, queen of statement brows and glossy strands. “One time, I used a hair dryer — that was apparently broken — in a hotel. And it burnt off a whole section of my hair, a huge chunk of hair outside of my head. And now I only travel with my GHD blow dryer.”

How apropos. She was there to hype GHD's new Nocturne collection, which features some of its beloved tools in moody, smokey purple, black, and lavender packaging. The limited edition range consists of the brand's platinum styler, its new contour crimper, air professional hair dryer, 1" gold styler, a super adorable mini travel hair dryer, and a few gift sets featuring some of the aforementioned products.

Marjan says that fall “is a nice time to go deeper with the hair color. Everyone bleaches their hair for summer and wants to see lots of highlights and blonde. But going darker will definitely make the hair look shinier and healthier.”

When it comes to hairstyling, both ladies say they will turn to a pro to get the job done. Marjan, though she does hair for a living, says she’s too “lazy” to do her own. Her go-to lazy girl trick?

“I'll use the GHD hair dryer, and I'll just use a little bit of volume mousse, the root when it's wet. Put a little heat on it, go to sleep, wake up, and it's the perfect bed head look, just a little volume,” she says.

As for Culpo, who now has extensions: “It's so much hair that I hate styling it. So what I do is, at night, I'll braid it up to right here, so the ends are straight, and then in the morning I wake up and take out the braids. Then I just use the GHD Platinum Styler around the front, to make it look more polished.”

And there you have it, folks. Sometimes, you don't need to put in a whole lot of effort for your hair to be on point.
