"Root Beer Hair" Is the Best New Trend for Brunettes

If you ask me — or anyone in the beauty industry for that matter — fall has officially turned into the season of hair-color trends coined by food names. And well, I don't hate it one bit, even though I'm now always hungry after scrolling through my social feed.

Let's see: In the past couple months alone, we've witnessed everything from cream soda-blonde to cinnamon-red, to vanilla milkshake ombré, and those are just three I can pull from the top of my head. Now, as Refinery29 reports, "root beer" hair has taken off, and well, it might just be my favorite food-related hair hue yet.

A stunning blend of medium and deep-toned brown shades, the "root beer" color is really characterized by both highlights and lowlights in the warm family, which hair colorist Chris Greene told Refinery29 says is what you want to aim for.

The best part is it it couldn't be more low-maintenance — that and it can be modified to work with your specific skin tone and eye color (everyone from Selena Gomez to Kristen Stewart has tried it.) But when heading to your hairstylist (which I can imagine many of you will do), a good point of reference would be to show them this photo of Sarah Hyland, who sports the multi-dimensional brunette shade perfectly.

While you wait for your next appointment, peep some more "root beer"-esque hues below so you have your inspiration photos on deck.
