Designer Azzedine Alaïa Has Passed Away at the Age of 82

In sad fashion-related news today, designer Azzedine Alaïa has passed away at the age of 82 in Paris. According to an obituary in The New York Times, the cause of his death was a heart attack. This news has been confirmed by his company. Alaïa's passing is a huge loss for the fashion industry, as his work spans many decades and has many famous fans.

According to the obituary in The New York Times, Alaïa has been designing clothing since at least 1957, when he paid rent partially by designing clothing for Comtesse Nicole de Blégiers while working with Christian Dior in Paris. Apparently, he did things on his own time, and preferred to design on his own creative clock rather than allow the constraints of the fashion world and the press to dictate his work schedule.
