Like so many other beauty aficionados, I believe, wholeheartedly in the beautyblender. The little pink pointed-egg sponge is, IMHO, the secret to well-blended face makeup. The catch? They're $20/pop. And for hygiene's sake, I like to replace them at least somewhat frequently.
Enter: the JUNO Microfiber Fusion Sponge. It's a periwinkle sphere with a squared-off tip, and is larger than your standard Beauty Blender. Best of all, it's $4!
This microfiber sponge is coated in what feels like a layer of thin velvet, which is a lovely sensorial detail but also part of the no-waste science of the product. To be exact, this sponge claims to waste 50 percent less product than its competitors.
Juno seeks to rivals the best blenders and makeup brushes by combining elements of both. It's made of a dual-layer of microfiber, which, founder, Mira Torres explains "creates a barrier that helps product sit atop of the sponge." The soft, non-abrasive material gives the result of very small fibers — smaller than a strand of silk — which give the sponge its unique, velvety texture.
It's recommended for use with a creamy foundation, but, Torres notes, "can be used with wet or dry makeup due to its fused capabilities of a sponge and a makeup brush." Torres recommends wetting the sponge first. (When I used it this morning, I coated it with some Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator mist, before adding my foundation on top for added skincare benefits). If you want fuller coverage, however, simply don't wet the sponge at all.
Like any other makeup sponge, the JUNO can be cleaned with any old soap + warm water. Torres says that a few gentle squeezes will get any product buildup out, so your sponge lasts longer.
