Earlier this month, Uma Thurman was asked by Access Hollywood about the flood of sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood. Her response, which showed measured rage, went viral after being posted by journalist Yashar Ali. For a refresher, she said, “I don’t have a tidy soundbite for you, because I have learned... I am not a child and I have learned that when I’ve spoken in anger, I usually regret the way I express myself. So I’ve been waiting to feel less angry and when I’m ready, I’ll say what I have to say.” Now, however, she's starting to speak out, and posted a telling caption on Instagram this past week with the hashtag #MeToo.
The post is a screen grab of Thurman from the movie Kill Bill, which happened to be a Weinstein company production. She wrote in the caption, "I am grateful today, to be alive, for all those I love, and for all those who have the courage to stand up for others. I said I was angry recently, and I have a few reasons, #metoo, in case you couldn’t tell by the look on my face. I feel it’s important to take your time, be fair, be exact, so... Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! (Except you Harvey, and all your wicked conspirators - I’m glad it’s going slowly - you don’t deserve a bullet) -stay tuned Uma Thurman." As Bustle pointed out, the character she played in the Kill Bill movies was betrayed by her own and sought out slow, careful vengeance, so this caption is especially apt.
It sounds like there will be more coming from Thurman about her experiences working with Weinstein, though she's taking her time finding the right words. And you know what? That's totally okay.
