Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux Announce Separation

After two and a half years of marriage, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are reportedly calling it quits. According to a statement made through Aniston's publicist Stephen Huvane to the Associated Press, the pair has decided to part ways, and are publicly recognizing the separation to avoid further speculation on their status as a couple.

“Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly," the statement reads. "Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.”

The couple reportedly broke up in late 2017 but kept the separation quiet from the public, and even went on vacation together in Cabo San Lucas to ring in the New Year, according to People.

Before anyone asks whether Brad Pitt is involved, the answer is no. And I encourage you all to openly scorn the first reporter who asks Jennifer Aniston about him during in an interview. Same goes for whoever requests a comment regarding Aniston from Angelina Jolie.

Given the (rather absurd) amount of press that surrounded Aniston's relationship and breakup with Brad Pitt in the mid-2000s, it's no wonder that she and Theroux would want to get ahead of the gossip and avoid any kind of media circus at an already stressful time. And, considering the two were together for a total of seven years, it is oddly reassuring to read reports that they're having such an amicable breakup.

Now, let's reiterate the new rule one more time: Everyone, please refrain from asking whether or not she's getting back together with Brad. (And I don't want to hear any calls for David Schwimmer, either.) Give her some space, let her try out some new bangs or some other big hair change, like so many of us do when we go through a big split — no, not "The Rachel." Let's just let her live, shall we?
