When Rihanna first dropped the hotly anticipated Stunna Liquid Lipstick back in November, fans were over the moon — and that's putting it lightly. Bloggers, YouTubers, Instagram influencers, and editors alike fell hard and fast for the bold red liquid lip, which is as richly pigmented as it is comfortable to wear (a difficult feat in the world of liquid lip products, which have a tendency to be drying). Not Stunna though. Despite being labeled as having a "soft matte" finish, the product proves to be moisturizing on the lips and doesn't sink into lip lines the way others can.
The one and only issue fans could find with the universally flattering red lip product is its tendency to bleed and transfer onto teeth — a lot. They praised the longevity and comfortable feel, but when Fenty Beauty's global makeup artist Priscilla Ono held a special Q&A on the brand's YouTube channel, they took the opportunity to address the aforementioned issue. "Why does it stain so badly?" they asked, to which Ono responded with a very simple answer: "Stunna lip paint is not actually a matte liquid lipstick, it is just a liquid lipstick [that's] supposed to be very comfortable and non-drying on the lip [so] that you have a beautiful and smooth texture."
She then followed up her response with her foolproof technique for ensuring the product stays put and doesn't bleed. Basically, it all comes down to how much product you apply, as she says it's ultra-pigmented, so less is actually more in the case of this liquid lip. "When you're applying the Stunna lip paint, it's actually very pigmented so you only need a little bit and it goes a long way," she said. "Try to avoid layering the lipstick and it will actually transfer less," she concluded. It's a simple tip, sure, but one that has the potential to make a major difference in the overall wear of the product. As Ono said, by keeping the amount you apply to a minimum, you're much less likely to experience the dreaded bleeding or "lipstick teeth," which, of course, no one wants.
Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest ones. For more Fenty realness, catch the full Q&A with Ono, below.
