If you've been contemplating getting a cool, unique haircut for summer, you're in luck, as we've got just the inspiration you need to officially take the plunge (which is not always easy). It's all thanks to Arizona-based hairstylist and educator, Shannel Mariano, who recently posted a mesmerizing video of her working some serious scissor magic on her client, Chelsea, who happens to be a national educator and salon owner for Paul Mitchell. What a dream duo.
The video shows Mariano meticulously snipping away at Chelsea's strands on an angle — moving seamlessly around the perimeter of her head — after giving her an undercut using clippers. "She actually did her own beautiful multidimensional green hair color," Mariano tells Allure of Chelsea's stunning mermaid-mint shade. "I love that she always dreams up ideas and asks for edgy geometric precision haircuts; that day we thought of doing one smooth continuous cut from short to long," she explains.
Mariano also explained on Instagram that she cut all the hair on top at its natural fall, as she wanted to keep the perimeter bold and blunt. What's more, she stressed the importance of using razor-sharp scissors, especially for angular, geometric cuts like this one. "When my scissors are dull, I find that it pushes the hair too much [and] sometimes it even bends the hair and doesn't even cut it," she wrote. For this particular cut, Mariano used Acro Type K by Mizutani Scissors.
The original video post has amassed more than 75,000 likes and legions of comments praising the cut, too. "Wow! The precision is just magnificent 😁😻," wrote one user. "Watching the cutting is mesmerizing!! Looove it!!🔥🔥🔥," said another. The finished look features blunt bangs cut a half-inch above the brows and an angular-style cut with one side short and the other grazing the chin. It's undoubtedly one of the coolest cuts we've seen as of late, and if you ask us, is worth trying out if you're feeling something fun and daring for the season ahead.
