Tarte Launching New Eye and Cheek Palette Collaboration With Aspyn Novard

There are so many good collaborations out there right now, including Padma Lakshmi's M.A.C. collection, the Urban Decay and House of Harlow collaboration, and Chrissy Teigen's forthcoming second collaboration with Becca, which is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Now, Tarte is getting in on the action with a collaboration, as well, though there is a little controversy.

The beauty brand has tapped lifestyle blogger Aspyn Ovard, who boasts 1.9 million followers on her Instagram account, to join forces and create an eye and cheek palette. The palette, which was previewed by beauty supersleuth account Trendmood1, appears to have two different cheek shades (likely a blush and a highlighter) and nine different natural-looking eye shadow shades.

On the photos posted by Trendmood1, you can see swatches of all the shades on three different skin tones, and they appear to be pretty, pigmented, and great for a summery, natural look. The packaging is floral and pink, which seems to go along with Ovard's general vibe. While some people liked the upcoming palette, other folks commented that the shades would only work on white people, saying things like, "First thing I thought of when I saw this was that poc CAN’T use this," and "50 shades of beige." One commenter had a suggestion, saying, "I just don't get this? If you're going to do a palette that has shades meant for light skin tones then the brand should make a palette for darker skin tones too, just like with contour palettes because the same shades are not going to work for everyone if they're this light. Or even better, put a full spectrum of color into a palette so everyone can use it to get both subtle and smokey looks."

However, if this looks like your thing, according to Trendmood1, the palette will sell for $39 at Ulta starting on May 15.
