Estée Lauder Bought Becca Cosmetics For A Reported $200 Million

It's not often that we get too pumped about mergers and acquisitions. But today, when the Business of Fashion reported that Estée Lauder bought Becca Cosmetics, our interested was more than piqued. That's because it's fair to say we're wild about Becca Cosmetics, for a few primary reasons. First of all, their products have always catered to a wide range of skin tones—not just lily white, alabaster, and ivory. Other companies are catching up to this level of beauty woke-ness, but Becca did it early and they did it well. And secondly, they've got the secret recipe for the absolute best highlighters in the business—the hype around Becca’s Champagne Pop is real, people. It's no wonder Estée Lauder bought Becca Cosmetics, bringing it into the family fold with other powerhouse brands like MAC, La Mer, Origins and Glamglow. While the actual bottom line was not disclosed, as it often isnt in big time deals, insider's speculate the figure was somewhere around $200 million.

The new acquisition by The Estée Lauder Companies means big things for Becca Cosmetics, which was founded in 2001. (We first covered The Ultimate Mascara on our site back in 2007.) "This new partnership will help us tap into the expertise of The Estée Lauder Companies and scale to grow Becca even further,” Bob DeBaker, Becca’s CEO, tells Allure. “We're excited to reach more fans around the world with this beautiful brand and our best-selling products.”

The brand's tenets are reflected in the lineup of primers, concealers, foundations, blushes and highlighters. "We are experts in the beauty of light and we are passionate about creating products in balanced shade ranges for all skin tones," DeBaker says. The was a recent standout favorite here in our office amongst Allure editors. If you're worried that Becca's deep commitment to light and diversity will falter now that they're mixing it up with the big guys: Don't be. "Our fan-favorite products will remain the same,” says DeBaker. "Becca will stay true to our core brand vision. The entire team at The Estée Lauder Companies has made clear that they want to preserve our unique culture. It is the ideal partnership—we can keep our fast-growth, creative indie feel while getting their amazing resources and expertise to take us to the next level." A recently updated section on the company's website also promises the formulas will remain the same, and the brand will continue being cruelty-free. A big congratulations to both companies from all of us here at Allure. We can't wait to see what's next.
