We thought hair stenciling was the craziest way to color your hair, but the hairdressing group Xpresion Creativos took that concept one running leap forward with Super Mario hair. No, someone from the Madrid-based collective didn't just cut their hair in a dorky little crop and slap on a red baseball cap. (Cute, but not something to write home about.) Instead, the group colored a model's hair with squares of red, blue, black, beige, and yellow to recreate the pixelated form of Mario himself, in all his overalled, coin-jumping, brick-bashing glory. It's almost like someone projected Super Mario onto a model's hair. And unlike the hair stencil technique we've told you about in the past, this artistry was painstakingly achieved with hair dye, not spray-on hair color.
From afar, you'd never guess that the model's hair is the most awesome ode to the classic Nintendo game most of us wasted countless hours with in our basements as kids. (Yoshi is bae.) Instead, it looks like she a few hot streaks of color were striped into glossy black hair. The cool part comes with the model's Super Mario hair is brushed out completely flat. Voilà! Three totally recognizable Marios.. How next-level is that?
Watch another hair transformation:
Xpresion Creativos created the look as a tribute to Japan for a Tokyo hair conference, reports Harper's Bazaar. The team said it took them about a week to pull-off the pixelated masterpiece, which started on a weft of extensions that was later sewn into to the model's own hair. In the past, the group has experimented with other technology-inspired looks like pixel-printed bangs and heart rate monitor-like lines. I'm hoping they do a pixelated Princess Peach on someone's hair next. Rose gold hair is in right now.
