Last night at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City, my good friend Roxy Toporowych won the "Calvin Klein Spotlight on Women Directors Grant for her new movie, Julia Blue, a love story set in modern day, post-revolutionary Ukraine that features a strong, female heroine. If that wasn't enough excitement and girl power for one night, one of my favorite actresses (and recent Allure cover star), Amy Adams, received a tribute award—and looked stunning doing it. Her makeup is what I want mine to look like every day, but since I don't have a professional makeup artist on hand in the mornings, I did the next best thing: Asked Adams' go-to beautifier, Stephen Sollito. "For the event she wore a navy tuxedo, ideal for the event. I am always inspired by the color of the gown, dress, or in this case the tuxedo," he said. "Color, to me dictates a lot and then you take into consideration the event and the woman you are working with. Because of the navy in the tux, I thought a bronze eye with some 'cold outside' pink cheeks and a wearable yet complimentary lip would be perfect." Once he told me how he came up with the look, he then broke it down for me (and also gave some great advice for women with blue eyes):
FACE: "To start, I prepped Amy's skin with ReVive Moisturizer. Then, with a damp sponge I applied Chanel's Sublimage Le Teint Ultimate Radiance-Generating Cream Foundation in 10 Beige. It blends and covers beautifully. At the temples, the tip of the nose and the chin I always dust a bit of bronzer. This warms up the face for me, adds dimension, yet isn't overdone shading."
CHEEKS: "On Amy's cheeks I used a bright pink blush from my cheek palette. Pink and bronze are a beautiful color combination to bring out someone's blue eyes. And yes, the colors you wear on your lips and cheeks do affect the color of your eyes."
LIPS: "To top off this whole look, I loved the wearability of Chanel's Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating in Lettre. I loved that it's a shade you could wear everyday or dressed up with a smoky bronze eye and a navy tuxedo like Amy did. Polished perfection."
