Personalization is everywhere in fashion right now. From monogrammed bomber jackets to bags covered in key chains and leather decals, there have never been better (and easier) ways to express your personality through clothing and accessories.
That being said, the trend isn't particularly groundbreaking at this point. But Bella Hadid may have just introduced a brand new way to pull it off. Yesterday, the model sported a thick black choker that read her name, “Bella,” in oversized white gothic font. She paired the choker with black skinny jeans, lingerie-inspired bodysuit, and a long duster coat. The neckpiece takes the ubiquitous choker trend—stemmed from fashion's current obsession with the '90s—and gives it a new twist.

The look is reminiscent of nameplate necklaces, which admittedly, have been making a bit of a comeback, as well. Earlier this year, Gigi Hadid proved she and her boyfriend, Zayn Malik, are #relationshipgoals when she rocked a "Zayn" necklace by jewelry designer Lola James. And rather than swapping broken heart pieces, the model and her BFF Kendall Jenner tapped the jeweler to create personalized friendship necklaces featuring a combined version of their names: "KenGi." Little sister Bella followed suit with a tiny, delicate "Abel" necklace—in honor of her boyfriend, The Weeknd. Like everything in their wardrobes, the trend decidedly harkens back to the late '90s and early 2000s—the supermodel trio's favorite fashion decades.
To show off her personalized choker last night, the younger Hadid pulled back hair in a simple topknot and added a bit of glitz with a pair of silver hoop earrings. While it's a seemingly unassuming piece—a black strap with words—the choker can add a touch of edge to your favorite sweater-and-denim combo and your cocktail frock for the evening.
