Last week, she gave fans a new reason to be excited about the holiday season when she released the first looks at her upcoming Kylie Cosmetics holiday collection. Now, Kylie Jenner is being accused of copying a makeup artist. The diamond powder-based lip kits and eye shadows in the upcoming collection drip with decadence, much like the promotional images Kylie Cosmetics released on Instagram a couple days ago. However, at least one person was not feeling the holiday look. Vlada Haggerty, a makeup artist who is popular on Instagram for her liquid lip art, realized a striking similarity to her own work in the photo of a woman holding her gold powder-brushed hands up to her ombre red-lipped face. Haggerty took to Instagram to call out the young beauty mogul for copying a look she created a couple months ago with a side-by-side photo. She posted the comparison to her recent "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil" series yesterday, and the makeup artist has already gotten about 23,800 likes.

As Mark Twain famously said, “There is no such thing as a new idea." That's especially the case in a post-social media era of beauty, where everything is referential and trends are cycled through as quickly as Instagram's Explore page. Haggerty fails to mention that even her work—the look that Kylie Jenner is being accused of copying—stems from another artist. Beauty and fashion archivists familiar with French artist and photographer Guy Bourdin are well aware of that. The concept of a model placing her hands over her face and wearing red lipstick for a beauty campaign can be traced back to Bourdin's iconic 1970 image for French Vogue.

Jenner has yet to comment on the similarity. We're guessing she's busy gearing up for her holiday collection to hit the web today at 1 p.m. PST. In the meantime, many people on Instagram are flooding the Instagram post's comment section with the snake emoji.
