Carrie Fisher Dies at 60 (Breaking)

Carrie Fisher, the iconic actress who portrayed Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, has passed away at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack.

The sad news was confirmed in a statement to People on Tuesday.

"It is with a very deep sadness that [Fisher's daughter] Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning," the statement read.

Via the statement, Lourd said, "She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers."

Fisher reportedly went into cardiac arrest while on an airplane flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday, December 23. Fisher, who was "in a lot of distress on the flight" according to a source, became unresponsive and was removed from the aircraft by paramedics. She was on tour promoting her book The Princess Diarist.

On December 25 (the day that George Michael tragically passed away), Fisher's mother, legendary actress Debbie Reynolds, tweeted that her daughter was in stable condition.

"Carrie is in stable condition.If there is a change,we will share it. For all her fans & friends. I thank you for your prayers & good wishes," Reynolds wrote.

Fisher is best remembered for her role as the female lead in Star Wars. She debuted as Princess Leia in 1977's Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope at the age of 19, and went on to star in the following two films, in addition to making a special appearance reprising her iconic role in 2015's The Force Awakens.

Fisher is survived by Lourd, Reynolds, and her cherished French bulldog Gary.
